December 7th 1941 – “A day that will forever live in infamy”
The American Experience Museum is pleased to present a very rare and limited opportunity to view artifacts directly related to Territory Hawaii, leading up to the attack on December 7th 1941 by the Japanese Navy. These artifacts, which include a section of the U.S.S. Arizona – that was sunk with her crew of 1,177 Sailors on December 7th 1941; the 1941 Pacific Fleet Navy game football – signed by all of the players before the Fleet was split up in the summer of 1941; documents and paperwork from Hickam Army Air Field, Pearl Harbor Naval Station, and Schofield Barracks Army Post; a 1941 Hawaii License Plate; the dress uniform from a Marine assigned to the U.S.S. Maryland in Pearl Harbor during the attack; Army competition awards from Schofield Barracks, and much more!
The artifacts on are limited temporary loan from QuestMasters Museum, and will only be on display from November 26th 2022 through December 10th 2022. Christopher R. Van Valkenburgh “Van”, owner and curator of QuestMasters, is a relative of Captain Franklin B. Van Valkenburgh, the last Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Arizona, Medal of Honor recipient (posthumous), and was Killed- in-Action on December 7th 1941.
